We are so proud to say that she chose Driscoll Design as one of the featured artists in her first book, "Today's Top Stationery Artists"! It also features fantastic designers such as Hello Lucky!, Hammerpress and Snow & Graham. You can purchase it online by clicking on this link to Amazon.com:

Our first "retail show" was yesterday at the annual REI Holiday Bazaar! We were excited to do this as an opportunity to meet other artisans and talk with people first hand about our products. It was a GREAT experience and we loved everyone's enthusiasm! Check out more photos on our Facebook page here:

Snow Day
It snowed fiercely in the Seattle region yesterday. We rarely get snow as it's a usually mild climate in the Pacific Northwest but, when it does snow, it takes everyone off guard! Look at this poor little kitty surrounded by frost. This photo was taken today at the beautiful Woodland Park Zoo, just a few short blocks from the Driscoll Design studio.

Pippi and Me
Since childhood, one of my inspirations has been Pippi Longstocking. In Swedish, Pippi LÃ¥ngstrump, in German, Pippi Langstrumpf. I loved her moxy, her superhuman strength, her stand against injustice and her fierce independence. Also, she lived by herself, could lift a horse, and her red brains and freckles would turn heads! I always thought of myself as a mix of Pippi and her shy, quiet friend, Annika. This childlike part of me is reflected in my design work, I think. I hope I never lose it.

BOO!
Halloween is starting to unveil itself already in our local stores. This reminds me of two particular costumes I had as a kid. My earliest costume was an authentic, traditional Korean dress with matching shoes that my parents bought for me when my father was stationed in Seoul. When we moved back to the States, I wore that lovely silk dress with all its striped colors and tiny, pointed toe shoes for years before I just wouldn't fit in it anymore!
My next costume after that was much more basic: a Caspar the Friendly ghost costume consisting of a plastic mask and a matching plastic drape. The kind with the mask that made your face feel moist, hot and cold all at the same time. My mother didn't sew, as you might presume. Didn't matter, Halloween was always full of anticipation! So, here's an early reminder that it's just around the corner...

Here I am with our display at the Ballard Sip'n Ship during the Ballard Artwalk a couple of months ago. Lots of people came in to scope out the shop and chat with myself and another talented designer, Penny Eversole, of Pinkerton Design. Ship Ahoy!
With summer vacations starting up, I've been daydreaming about ocean cruises and warm sunshine (it's only 55 degrees in Seattle today, Lord help us)! Summer Solstice will be here in 4 days and I still haven't had my yearly sunburn, boo-hoo (I'll take anything I can get other than pale).
On a cheerier note, here's our new, cute sailor card to wish any little (or big) boy a very Happy Birthday!

Farm Chicks!
My friend and I went to Farm Chicks this weekend! It's a show located at the Spokane Fairgrounds and Expo and it is filled with vendors who sell antiques, collectibles and handmade goods. It's one, big, girly fest! While there, I found a couple of old pieces of vintage luggage to use as a tv stand, an old, brass, lard bucket with a cool brand label and a vintage belt buckle (which I'm wearing right now) from the 40's or 50's that has some cowgirl boots on it. Can I call myself a farm chick even though I've never made marmalade and dinnertime usually means dining out at a sushi restaurant? Sure, why not. Besides, I've got the belt to prove it.

Have you ever been in a store in which you want to touch, taste and smell everything in it because it's all just so, well, desirable?! Watson Kennedy is just such a boutique. With two locations in downtown Seattle and one on the Microsoft campus in Redmond, you're bound to find the perfect greeting card (um, Driscoll Design, anyone?), gift or home decor item for yourself. A little Paris in Savannah
We're busily putting together a special delivery for one of our favorite stores located in beautiful Savannah, Georgia! It's called Paris Market & Brocante. This is exactly the type of store that I would love to open one day. It's chock-full of nostalgic and whimsical treasures that will keep you there for a long, long time. While there, we found a large, beautiful magnifying glass with a twisted, black horn handle for my mother which she displays on her antique desk in all its glory.
Charlie and I had the pleasure of visiting this amazing town in December of 2008 when all the historical town homes and charming boutiques were all a-glitter with Christmas ornamentation. Spectacular! We still daydream of moving our home and business there one day (although we would dearly miss our beloved Seattle)! Savannah School of Art and Design is there as well and I would imagine that students there would find so much inspiration amongst the antique stores, historical lore and Spanish moss.

A Big Merci!
Don't forget to send your loved ones a big "MERCI" for the holiday gifts that they so thoughtfully gave you. For instance, the soap-on-a-rope, the knitted reindeer slippers with the plastic googly eyes or the ocean-scented potpourri that will likely sit on your bathroom toilet tank for the next 10 years. Gotta love it.
